Behind the Scenes at Tryon Palace: Costume Shop

Tours of the costume shop will include historical accounts of the c. 1809 Jones House, which, among other things, was used as a prison during the Civil War, and a brief tour of the home’s exterior.

Inside the Jones House, the tour will visit the costume racks on the first floor, where all manner of period dresses and clothes hang. The costumer will discuss the research techniques used to ensure the costumes are produced using historically accurate techniques and fabrics. Also observe the costume team at work tailoring, mending, and creating costumes to be featured in events at Tryon Palace throughout the year.
