Fairfield Harbour History

In the 1960s Broad Creek Road was a sandy single lane road that led to the peninsula that would become Fairfield Harbour. Weyerhaeuser Paper Company leased most of the land but a 1963 fire destroyed much of the timber. In 1968 Northwest Developers, Inc. had a plan created for a self-contained town called Port O' Pines. During the 1970s, dredging for the current harbor and canal system was begun and thousands of trees were planted. Great Northern Development became the owner and the name was changed to Treasure Cove.

 

In May 1975 the Spring Creek Dam, which held back the water while canals and the Inner Harbour were being excavated, was removed allowing 25 boats to enter. By the mid-seventies the entrance gate was completed and construction began on the first three homes. During that time the community was sold to Fairfield Communities, Inc. (FCI), and became Fairfield Harbour. In the spring of 1978 the development of what is now the Northwest Creek Marina complex began.

 

In the mid-eighties Harbour Pointe Golf Course opened for nine-hole play. By the end of the eighties, Red Sail Park had been deeded to the Property Owners Association by Fairfield Communities.

In the early to mid-nineties Harbour Pointe Golf Course opened the second nine for 18-hole play; the Community Center/Firehouse was constructed, fire hydrants were installed to improve the fire rating and around the year 2000 the amenities were sold to MidSouth Golf, LLC.

The Harbour continued to see growth during the early 2000s. In 2007, the Activity Center was built and added more space for community activities. The community continues to grow and prides itself on its friendliness, willingness to reach out to those in need, and the nearly unlimited opportunities to interact with others.
