Yacht Club is ready to roll!

In January, the Fairfield Harbour Yacht club welcomed new officers and directors for 2018. Commodore Doug King handed over the helm to the new Commodore, John Jackson. Commodore Jackson then installed new directors and officers.

The spring kickoff to the 2018 racing/cruising season is upon us! This year promises to be an exciting year with activities planned from cruises to races and regattas. There are sailing activities geared to all levels of racing experience.

Racing:

  • Ensign Racing begins March 22 and run through May 3.

  • Dinghy Racing on Upper Broad Creek include Sunfish and other small craft.

  • Less intense but just as much fun are the informal Fun Races, held every Tuesday afternoon starting in April. This a pursuit form of racing based on PRHF ratings of the boats.

Regatta Racing:

  • The Wilkerson Cup is set for April 15. This year's course has been laid out in such a way that participants may find themselves at the whim of Mother Nature.

  • Oar Race scheduled for May 19, is a 20-25 miles race commemorating the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk. The perpetual award is an oar actually used during the historic event.

Cruises:

An exciting year is planned for cruising the local waters. Here is a partial list of choices.

  • 2018 Shakedown Cruise is scheduled for Friday, April 20-Sunday, April 22.

  • FHYC is headed to downtown New Bern and BridgePointe Marina for the initial cruise of the 2018 season. This is an opportunity to shake the winter dust off your boat and get on the water.

  • Air Show Overnight: The weekend of the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show, we anchor in Clubfoot Creek. Aircraft from the air show frequently fly over.

  • Ocrafolk Cruise: This May/June cruise coincides with the Ocrafolk Festival
