"Fat Tuesday" NBHS's "Party of the Season"!
On Fat Tuesday, February 13, the New Bern Historical Society (NBHS) held their annual “Friendraiser”. This much anticipated and popular event was a smash hit this year, too. Held at the historic William B. Blades House, the Mardi Gras style party is for members only and anyone who chooses to join the Historical Society by that day. The historic mansion was beautifully decorated for the occasion, the hors d’oeuvres and desserts were delicious, plentiful, and elegantly served. The evening was filled with laughter and good cheer. The atmosphere of creative masks and colorful beads added to the festive occasion. Prizes were awarded for the best masks and bling!
The New Bern Historical Society (NBHS) is dedicated to sharing the rich history of New Bern, NC and has been doing so since 1923. The Historical Society offices are located in the Attmore-Oliver House, c. 1790, in New Bern’s historic district. In addition to offices there is a Civil War display and room installations reflecting life in the mid-19th century. Beautiful historic gardens are located behind the house. The New Bern Historical Society also owns and stewards 30+ acres of the Battle of New Bern’s Civil War battlefield. The New Bern Battlefield Park is located near James City just off of Highway 70 East.
NBHS is an active organization with special events all year long. Ghostwalk, Civil War Adventure Day, monthly Lunch and Learns with guest speakers, The Attic, Basement, and Cellar Sale and Livingston Taylor in Concert, are just a few of the special events the NBHS offers.
