Exercise and No Excuses

January is always the busiest time of the year for gyms—you might even call it the fitness version of Black Friday. After a holiday season of eating, drinking, and being merry many gyms see their membership double each January. Regardless of all that enthusiasm, gym attendance is usually back to normal by mid-February. But in Fairfield Harbour, you’ve got a myriad of exercise choices that are all within the community and most are free. Classes are led by community volunteers. How is that for not having an excuse? So grab your BFF or neighbor and get to it! Exercising with a buddy encourages you to go and it is much more fun!

Here are a few of the fitness class options within Fairfield Harbour:

  1. Tai Chi: Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. FREE

  1. Zumba: Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo. Squats and lunges are also included. FREE

  1. Yoga: Yoga is group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga poses are great to strengthen and relax the body. Yoga is all about harmonizing the body with the mind and breath through the means of various breathing exercises, yoga poses and meditation. FREE

  1. Stretch and Tone: Stretch and Tone classes give you better strength and flexibility. You'll tone your tum, legs and arms, working your muscles to move better, bend more easily and reach higher. FREE

  1. Broad Creek Recreation Association: There is a full gym is on the property with exercise equipment for the traditional exerciser plus an indoor and outdoor pool for swimnastics. Membership required.
