ENTERTAINMENT FAMILY FUN GENERAL EVENTS HISTORY

This famed North Carolina tradition returns to Tryon Palace in 2017 with beautiful, new decorations and heartwarming holiday vignettes illuminated by the magical glow of candlelight.

Experience the beauty, joy, and magic of the holidays as Governor and Mrs. Tryon invite you to their new home for “Seasons of Giving: A Candlelight Christmas Celebration.” Inspired by traditions of giving that date back to the colonial period, Seasons of Giving brings Candlelight to Tryon Palace for its 37thyear with decorations inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas, historic characters in period clothing, and holiday vignettes spanning across three centuries.

Candlelight is a site wide event for Tryon Palace that includes tours of the Governor’s Palace, Stanly House, Dixon House, Commission House, and numerous activities on the grounds.

Inside the Governor’s Palace, the year is 1770, and William and Margret Tryon are hosting their first party at the new government house. Join Mr. William Haywood at the Dixon House as he presents Mrs. Haywood with a special gift for the Christmas of 1839. Knowing that the Christmas spirit needs to be felt even during times of strife, the Sisters of Mercy welcome the citizens of New Bern to their convent in the Stanly House. At the Commission House, enjoy a visit with Santa, listen to Christmas music and write a Christmas card to New Bern’s first responders surrounded by decorations inspired by Christmases past.

While walking around the candlelit grounds, be sure to catch the entertaining circus acts, fire eating, sword swallowing, and acrobatics of the Pickled Brothers Circus, the mysterious magic of 18th-century magician Rodney the Younger, the joyous sights and sounds of the Tryon Palace Jonkonnu troupe, and much more. Also, warm up with hot cider and cookies from Mack’s Cider House in the Trades Building. Then, end your enchanted evening with a show of black powder fireworks on the Tryon Palace South Lawn.

Candlelight is a rain or shine event, but fireworks may be cancelled during extreme weather conditions. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Admission: Aug. 1 to Oct. 31 ($20 adults, $10 youth), Beginning Nov. 1 ($25 adults, $15 youth), Tryon Palace Foundation Members ($18 adults, $8 youth)
