Garden Club showcases unusual plants.

The February program was “Luffa: A Plant for all Seasons.” Members learned that luffa (also known as loofah) is not just a scrub for the bath. Luffa is a genus of tropical and subtropical vines in the cucumber family. The plant can be cultivated and eaten as a vegetable at a young age and is very popular in China and Vietnam. When the plant is fully ripened, it is fibrous and is the source of the loofah scrubbing sponge.
The March meeting will be Monday, March 13, at 9:30 am in the Community Center. A program on Zen Gardening Design will be presented by Susan Broderick, President of the Craven County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association, Inc.
The Spring Garden Club bus trip will be Monday, May 1, to the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens in Fayetteville, NC.
