Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club (FHYC) kicks off a new boating season

As Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club kicks of the 2017 season, plenty of boaters have enjoyed boating all winter in the mild weather. Here is sample of how active this club is:

Charting the local waters.

  • Winter impromptu raft ups in the Inner Harbour is a regular occurrence in Fairfield Harbour. Locals enjoy the mild weather and warm days.

  • In February, the FHYC Education Committee sponsored a Local Waters Seminar which covers the Neuse River, and helps cruisers plan the upcoming boating season. Folks new to boating and experienced boaters who are new to the area benefit from members with local knowledge of the water.

  • The first official FHYC cruise is The Shakedown cruise to New Bern’s Bridgepointe Marina in late April. This is the time to make sure your boat systems are working properly.

  • On March 18, the annual Burn Those Socks event is scheduled at Red Sail Park. FHYC members wear their dirtiest, smelliest pair of socks and toss them into the fire to celebrate the beginning of a new boating season.

  • Commissioning Day is set for April 8. On Commissioning Day, the official opening of the boating season, each boat that chooses to participate is blessed as it passes by the Shoreline Marina. Luncheon follows at the Community Center.

  • The 20th annual Wilkerson Memorial Race is scheduled for Sunday, April 9. The regatta is open to all sailboats owned by members of FHYC which have a FHYC or NC PHRF rating.
