Glorious Fall Weather Ushered in MumFest

The annual MumFest is usually scheduled for the second weekend of October but, in 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit that weekend and the Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation opted to back the event up by a month.

The rescheduled MumFest weekend in New Bern, NC, was a great fall celebration with brisk temperatures in the mid 50s and lots of sunshine. MumFest brought in thousands of visitors to the waterfront area.

The festival, produced by Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corp. and sponsored by the city of New Bern, is a combination of family fun, entertainment, attractions, exhibitors and food.

It includes carnival games and children’s rides, a Kids Korner, a beer garden for the first time and a special area dedicated to North Carolina products.

Closed downtown streets featured more than 200 vendors and local nonprofit groups.

There was also a boat show at Union Point Park, along with street entertainers and various animal exhibits and demonstrations.

MumFest is recognized statewide as a major Eastern North Carolina award-winning family festival, and has received numerous awards over the years.
