Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club’s Little Washington Cruise

Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club (FHYC) cruised to Little Washington, NC, on Friday Oct. 21 and returned home on Saturday, Oct. 29. The weather was clear and crisp - great for sailing and motoring. A total of 12 boats left Fairfield Harbour for the destination 100 nautical miles away. Some cruised to Lower Broad Creek, Belhaven, Bath, Little Washington, Pamlico Plantation, and Clubfoot Creek and eight boats continued all the way to Little Washington.

In Belhaven, FHYC cruisers had several gourmet meals at Spoon River Artworks and Market, a farm-to-fork style restaurant. Culinary delights delayed the departure by one day to get “oyster fix”.

Arriving in Little Washington on Oct. 25, the cruisers enjoyed dinner at the Grub Brothers Eatery who were offering a half price wine day.

Mac Hodges, mayor of Little Washington, joined the FHYC for happy hour to share area trivia and help us secure a tour of the local Pacific Seacraft sailboat factory where Jimmy Buffett’s uber-luxury sailboat/fishing boat is under construction.

The cruisers visited the Washington Estuarium, exploring the science, art, nature and history of the Pamlico/Tar River estuary. Estuaries form where rivers meet the sea, blending fresh and salt waters into thriving ecosystems that are essential nurseries for thousands of species of fish and shellfish.

After leaving Washington, the cruisers were hosted by the Pamlico Plantation Yacht Club (PPYC) for a barbeque, including free slips with electricity in their marina. Two Fairfield member’s boats, the Stevenson’s Voyageur and the Knight’s Seaquel were purchased from members of the PPYC .

The group traveled back to New Bern with power boats rafting up in Clubfoot Creek overnight and with the sailors staying in Lower Broad Creek.
