Snowbirds heading south! Ann and Michael McDougall with security officer Boris Dog

When the weather in New Bern, NC begins to cool down some residents drive or fly to sunny, warm Florida, but some prefer to take their home with them. SV/Night Flight is our second home. She is a 46’ Hylas cruising sailboat with all of the amenities of home. Built for cruising offshore, she sails from Cape Fear to Georgetown, SC. After a stop in Georgetown, she is offshore to Jacksonville Beach, Fl. From there she travels down the Intracoastal Waterway with stops along the way. Her final destination is the Vero Beach City Marina mooring field. It is a cruiser’s ideal destination with free bus transportation throughout the city. The Vero Beach Art Museum and Riverside Theatre is a mere two blocks away. The Miracle Mile Plaza is within walking distance offering shopping and restaurants. In addition restaurants along the waterway are easily accessed by dinghy. Dinghies are considered the “cruisers’ wheels”. Every other month the city of Vero Beach hosts a downtown art walk. The City Marina welcomes repeat visitors and it is always enjoyable to catch up with friends and meet new ones as they travel to the Bahamas or down to the Keys. Each week there is a cruiser’s rendezvous where latest adventures are discussed and new arrivals are offered advice on services and things to do in the area.
